 Hmmm...

 Can you try moving ~/GNUstep out of the way (it would be best if you do
 this while Window Maker is *not* running) and restarting Window Maker?
 E.g.:

 $ mv ~/GNUstep ~/GNUstep.backup

 If that fixes it, I'd like to have a copy of ~/GNUstep/Defaults
