I would be very happy if the new memtest86+ package (containing version 1.70) would make it into etch. Please send a mail to debian-release@lists.debian.org to ask for unblocking the new version after uploading.
This is a new upstream version but this should not matter. metest86+.bin can't can't break the linux system at all, since it's running without starting a kernel.
