My French is almost non-existent, but I guess this means "I/O error",
right?

This is a hint that your medium is broken, i.e. the Iomega disc is faulty.
:-(

NOTE: Ensure that you mount the medium using the "noatime" mount option!

Otherwise, every read from the device will also cause a write operation
because the "last read" timestamp is updated. I don't know how many write
operations your medium supports, but with optical discs it is usually only
1000 or so, so when you frequently make changes to a directory (e.g. "data"
in your case), the directory's timestamp gets updated many many times.
After a few months or a year, the respective block on the disc can no
longer be overwritten, and you get an I/O error.

Unless you disagree, I'll close this bug. This is not a problem with
udftools, just a hardware failure.

Cheers,

  Richard
