I can confirm, if I install sysvinit, the bootup (at least wit splashy in initramfs) takes for ages and the progressbar seems to be stuck after the first 20%. Installing upstart is easy. Just make sure you install all recommended packages of upstart. Now it works fine for both (X and console). For me this bug can be closed.
