That's a good question, I haven't tried it. I will say that my rebuild of 0.3.6-1 still depends only on libmetacity0 >= 1:2.14 so at least the shlibs haven't changed. I don't have a machine running just the GNOME 2.14 from unstable to test though, only the 2.16 from experimental.
