Nope, I don't have a header line, actually I don't even have a page at
all at the receiving end, it just times out waiting for data when
c2faxsend is already down and hylafax thinks the fax has been
successfully sent.

Definitely.

I think my problem with 01.02.03-9 is #291559, both while receiving and
sending faxes. At least the behaviour is consistent with a segfault of
the c2faxXXX programs. I'll try to implement the solution you describe
in #291559 when I have some time, and report back.

In the meantime, if you can give me a way to assert whether c2faxsend
really segfaults or not ?

sendfax or via openoffice, always from a debian host.
