My mistake, a newer libnss-ldap package has fixed the issue. I was previously seeing the URI entry commented out and host enabled, silently on a package upgrade. Also saw duplicate host entries after an upgrade if host was already enabled. I noticed the first libnss-ldap debconf screen now asks specifically for an ldap URI, and no longer a host or IP. I didn't see that change in the libpam-ldap pkg you sent. Is that change in a separate patch I haven't see yet, or if not can the same be done?
