I compiled mysql 5.0.33 from the sources.
It took nearly 12 hours on my wonderful arm 266Mz processor with 32Mo of RAM, but I didn't felt like learning the tip and tricks about cross platform compilation.
Just to say that I won't compile many versions of mysql "just for a try"

The newly compiled binary works fine.

I enabled debug in the binary, so if you need anything from the logs that is provided by the "debug" option, I can provide it.

I imagine it is clearly less interesting when mysqld doesn't crashes ;)

What I deduce is that there is something wrong in the debian port.
Or there are new bug fix included in the 5.0.33 version from mysql that are not yet in the debian port.
Or I compiled an older version that doesn't show the problem.

I added the "ledir" option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf, mysqld_safe section.
I now uses my binary by default, but the debian official version is still present and I can easily switch to check any change.

Anyway, if you have a newer version that you want me to compile and test before pushing it to the "etch" official release, feel free to do so. I can afford a 12h long compilation of mysql to help the community ;)

Regards

Martin
