i've been meaning to respond to your question for a while now, but its slipped my mind. yes, i still think that nautilus should have "open with other application" behave more like thunar. its much more user-friendly to have recommended applications first.
There's very little reason to use "Open with other application" unless you really want something that isn't in the list of recommended applications, isn't it?
