I just figured it won't hurt to make a wider audience aware of the problem. It is a real PITA for me, but my knowledge of C is beyond minimal, so I can only hope that someone will step up to fix the thing. Back in the day I grepped through the source and it is verly likely that the problem is coming from unix_clean_name() in lib/util.c, but I just can't make much sense of the code.
