I'm guessing that you are referring to the BSD automounter shipped in
am-utils rather than the Linux-native automounter provided by autofs.
It is useful to mention Debian package names when reporting problems
like this in order to make it easier to identify exactly which software
you are referring to.

I can see no reference at all to amd.master in the current am-utils
sample (am-utils version 6.1.5-5) - the only example it has is for
/home.  Could you please clarify which documentation you are referring
to here?
