Sorry, but we would really appreciate if you submited the information for the upgrade-report as described in http://www.debian.org/releases/etch/i386/release-notes/ch-about.en.html#s-upgrade_reports Without that info there's no way we can actually understand what happened to your upgrade and how to either improve the Release Notes or fix some packages that could make the upgrade path be easier for others in your same situation.
