I have a preliminary package of VXL 1.8.0. It builds the VXL core as static libs. I had to disable MPEG2 support, though. Everything should be documented in the package changelog and README.Debian. I've uploaded the package to mentors.d.n http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/v/vxl/vxl_1.8.0-1.dsc I'd be glad if you could have a look at it. A nice addon would be support for shared libs. I added a (disabled) patch that demonstrates how it could work. However, it doesn't make sense to do this without upstream.
