Many thanks. Then, with such a setup, you only detect mailing lists based on contents on exply/ dir, and there are no more extensive aliases declarations. In this case, I think sendmail_aliases should probably be set to none (if this works with the current version of sympa in Debian), according to : http://www.sympa.org/wiki/manual/mail-aliases#alias_manager If exim is installed, this solution is probably more elegant... However, I'm not sure if it fits a generic fix of this problem, as the current pipe aliases as extensive declarations in an alias file would be better supported by any MTA by default (considering it is able to read /etc/mail/sympa.aliases, of course). Also it may be easier to understand for "regular admins" which are not exim experts, allowing easily some tweaks like temporarily disabling mailing-lists by commenting out the file contents, or other stuff like that...
