Regarding svn and the license: Upstream has the source available on their downloads page:
http://www.last.fm/download/ And their public svn repository contains the source for released versions of the newer client. It is currently here: svn://svn.audioscrobbler.net/client/Audioscrobbler/tags The LICENSE/COPYING confusion that you talked about is cleared up. It's pretty clearly GPL and GPL-compatible to me. Regarding the bug when playing to an external player: Upstream 'fixed' it by getting rid of that feature. Lastfm no longer supports external players; it now only supports ALSA output. As you said, the best alternative for playing to an external player is lastfmproxy. It's now in testing/unstable.
