Makes sense to me. The only thing I'm not sure about is the
'acpi-support' script, which is also @S99. It also refers to something
called 'laptop mode' [0]. Any connection to this package? Does it make
a difference which one starts first?

[0] /etc/init.d/acpi-support says:

# INIT script to check whether we're on batteries, and so start with laptop 
# mode etc enabled.

and /etc/acpi/power.sh (called from acpi-support refers several times
to 'LAPTOP_MODE'.
