Can you please start icedove in -safe-mode and see if it still
happens?
# icedove -safe-mode
I'm having the same problem and yes, it still happens with -safe-mode:
$ icedove -safe-mode
/usr/lib/icedove/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 9497 Segmentation fault

$ uname -a
Linux zoidberg 2.6.18-4-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 26 11:36:53 CEST 2007

$ dpkg -s libc6 | grep ^Version
