Tags: confirm I started maintaining this package a few months ago. I read all the bug reports, but it took me a while to get around to taking care of them.
I just tested running an xevil client and server on the same debian machine, Testing/Lenny. The error I get is very similar to the one you specify. Although, I have "...writing 12 bytes when set for 82", and there are 17 of these messages between connected and lost. I think the problem is that xevil was written for a 2.0, or 2.2 kernel. The networking stack has changed since then. Perhaps some bugs that used to get by, no longer do.
