Thanks for your report.

Indeed there is problem with your interfaces file generated by
pppoeconf because there is two lines with "iface eth1 inet manual".
pppoeconf doesn't detect yout original line with spaces before
"iface". You should erase and try again.

A new version without this bug will be uploaded soon.


For your last question, a correct interfaces file looks like :

8<------------------------------------
iface dsl-provider inet ppp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth1 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
provider dsl-provider

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
8<------------------------------------

If your connection is not established after reboot with
this interfaces file, please report a bug for ppp package
(and please Cc: me).
