Package: festvox-suopuhe-common
Version: 1.0g-20051204-1
Severity: important

How I am supposed to use this piece of crap^H^H^H^Hsoftware?

I have installed at least these Festival-related packages and their
dependencies:

festival
festvox-suopuhe-common
festvox-suopuhe-lj
festvox-suopuhe-mv

Let's see a file /usr/share/doc/festvox-suopuhe-common/README.lj.gz

First I see it is in some ancient 8-bit charset. Meanwhile rest of the
universe is quickly switching to UTF-8. I had to read that file in this way:

zcat README.lj.gz | iconv -f ISO-8859-15 -t UTF-8 | less

Very user-friendly - NOT!

Then that file says:

---- Clip here ----
11. KÄYTTÖ

Lukee laventimen tekemät suo- tai suopuhe-prefiksillä varustetut tiedostot
suopuhe-moodissa, käskyllä

$ festival --tts foo.suo

Muuten käyttö festivalin ohjekirjojen mukainen

12. WWW-SIVUT

Syntisaattorit ohjesivut tulevat vastaisuudessa löytymään
osoitteen http://www.ling.helsinki.fi/suopuhe alta.
---- Clip here ----

I still can not figure out, how to use that software.
I went to that aforementioned WWW-page and found this page:

http://www.ling.helsinki.fi/suopuhe/ohjeet.shtml

That page says:

Let's see what happens in Reality(tm):

---- Clip here ----
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/juhtolv % festival

---- Clip here ----

I go on in that WWW-page and then I see this:

---- Clip here ----
(if (probe_file
"JOKU_POLKU/festival/lib/voices/finnish/hy_fi_mv_diphone/festvox/hy_fi_mv_diphone.scm")
    (begin

      (set! voice_default 'hy_fi_mv_diphone)))
;;; ... siteinit.scm päättyy
---- Clip here ----

Let's try something like that:

---- Clip here ----
festival> (load
"/usr/share/festival/voices/finnish/suo_fi_lj_diphone/festvox/hy_fi_mv_diphone.scm")
nil
---- Clip here ----

OMG! It seems it loaded that file I found! At least I think so. Let's try
again:

---- Clip here ----

festival>
---- Clip here ----

ARGH!1

Then I installed a package called festival-doc . I read file
/usr/share/doc/festival/html/festival_toc.html and it gives some example
session. I try to do the same:

---- Clip here ----

Then I somehow decided to play with command-line flags:

---- Clip here ----
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/juhtolv % festival --language finnish

And it really works! OMG

Then I try to create simple batch-file. I save it to filename
numeroasema.suo and it looks like this:

---- Clip here ----

And then it works! But I still wonder, how I can add a pause defined in
seconds.

Please, wake up to reality and make some good and _functional_ quick-start help
or tutorial! Current documentation is abso-fscking-lutely way too complicated
for "normal" (l)users and festival really does not work as documented! Please
fix
this before some angry (l)user of your software takes you behind some sauna!
