It is a preposterous argument, sysvinit scripts are the default in
Debian and a simple init script would not get you bug reports. Being
myself a maintainer of such packages in Debian, I am really amazed
to read such a statement.

No, I do not want to run a vserver with plain initstyle, only because
a random maintainer thinks sysvinit sucks. Moreover, one does not
need a true init environment in a vserver by default, so it is not
an acceptable workaround.

Yes, there is. You do not create yet another source package only for
an init script. It will probably never go through NEW for that reason.

It is not a matter of you agreeing or not, nor it is a matter of I
not caring about other wannabe sysvinit implementations. The fact
is that Debian *currently* uses sysvinit by default and it works
*everywhere*, period.

No, you are not. I reopened and merged it instead, as I do not want
this to go into oblivion.
