I still do not understand why the packages work fine on all of my systems, and I do not like the way you have fixed the issue. How about: if [ -e "${UPEX4C_outputfile}" ]; then chmod 640 "${UPEX4C_outputfile}" fi It is a lot less cryptic anyway.
