Package: gnokii Version: 0.6.16-2 Severity: normal File: /usr/bin/xgnokii Hi,
When I try to start xgnokii, I receive a message that claims gnokii to be "known broken" with my phone, and it wants to exit after that (even though it fails doing so). The error message points to <http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.gnokii/3195> for more information. Reading that page shows that the driver had been disabled because someone found that connecting to their old Nokia phone (one which uses a different driver from my 6021) over IrDA (rather than bluetooth, as in my case) broke their phone. It turns out that this old phone doesn't really support IrDA, which therefore means that using IrDA instead of the "infrared" driver that was written for that specific protocol is a bad idea. While I can understand that xgnokii would want to avoid connecting to such phones using the "IrDA" protocol, I would tend to think that connecting to the phone using a totally different connection method *and* a totally different phone driver should not be affected by this precautionary measure. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-1-powerpc Locale: LANG=nl_BE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_BE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnokii depends on: ii adduser 3.103 Add and remove users and groups ii dialog 1.1-20070604-1 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe ii libatk1.0-0 1.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbluetooth2 3.11-1 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Blu ii libc6 2.5-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.8-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2 generic font configuration library ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.12-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnokii3 0.6.16-2 Gnokii library ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.13-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii liblockfile1 1.06.2 NFS-safe locking library, includes ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.4-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-7 userspace USB programming library ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.8-2 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-4 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.2-1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.6-3 X11 pixmap library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.1-1 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii timeout 1.11-6.3 Run a command with a time limit. gnokii recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
