I am not aware of any new extension being enabled by default in the new server. If I remember correctly, DAMAGE has been enabled by default for a long time, and Composite is still not enabled by default in Lenny. When did this bug appear? Could you try downgrading some packages to Etch? I would start with xserver-xorg-core, then drivers, then libs. Can you reproduce this on multiple machines with different boards?
