Could you please provide a libperl5.8-dbg package with the debugging symbols of the shared library? Having those available makes debugging programs linked against libperl5.8 a lot easier. Please note that libperld.a provided by the perl-debug package does help in that case as it would require rebuilding the software which is not what you want when debugging e.g. packaged software. "dh_strip --dbg-package" provides the functionality to automatically create such a package - you might want to have a look at it. TIA.
