As I've noted in the Ubuntu bug, Redhat bugzilla has a similar bug
saying this problem is due to a bug in X.  I never had time to do a
deeper investiagtion though.

I'll add an entry in the NEW.Debian file to alert users about this
change.  Besides that, I am not sure what I can do.  Now we either screw
up European deadkey users, or the XIM users who don't need deadkeys.  I
assume keeping the same configuration as upstream is a safe bet.
