Weird, this is actually how postgresql-8.2 ships it by default: $ dpkg -c postgresql-8.2_8.2.4-2_amd64.deb | grep 'timezone\>' lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2007-08-02 10:41 ./usr/share/postgresql/8.2/timezone -> ../../zoneinfo Wasn't that the case for you?
