Any news on this issue? It seems to also be a duplicate of http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=368678 and both bug reports are valid, IMO. I also recently installed setmixer (on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD, but I don't think that matters) and was surprised to see aumix being removed, which works just fine on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD (as does setmixer). There's no reason at all to conflict here, having multiple mixer applications installed at the same time is perfectly valid.
