Hi I just uploaded a new version of marble (0.4.3-1) . It will hit the mirrors soon. Could you please check, if the bug is still present for you? Also, could you please try to load the jpeg file, which causes the problem in gimp. Then save it under half of the size and copy it back. I would like to see, if the problem lies with QImageReader, althoughn there should not be a problem. Thanks for your efforts.
