I believe, that this to be upstream bug #452159 (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452159). It seems to be fixed in SVN rev. 548 on 2007-07-30 (http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-mag?view=revision&revision=548). Workaround, at least for me: Enable composite extension in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
