Thanks for your reply to my ping on the bug report. I looked into this a bit. It appears that some of the changes have been accepted upstream, and some haven't. In any case, it is clear that the Open Office people are tracking these problems with upstream. If upstream is not going to accept the patches, then I am certainly not going to accept them in to debian even though I'm sure you're right that they're not in Open Office's repository for no reason. Although you may disagree with my maintenance philosophy, I prefer not to accept patches that are not going in upstream unless they are really fixing some debian-specific issue or unless I understand them well enough to make a judgment about them. In this case, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Since you seem to indicate that this problem may still be present, I will leave the bug open as you request. > I didn't get your mail asking for more info in the first place > somehow, so I couldn't have answered. You at least could have pinged > me again. I believe that's what I did. I'll admit I could have done it sooner. I also could have just closed the bug, which I didn't. > I'll reopen this bug evetytime you decide to close it. You'll find I respond better to polite and helpful comments, which is true for most people. You'll also find, however, that I try to help within reason even with rude comments. I took over ICU because the packages were very outdated and a bit of a mess. I do have, however, the disadvantage of being monolingual. I won't play BTS wars with you or anyone else. Just bear in mind that, just because the bug remains open in the BTS, it doesn't mean that I can fix the problems, particularly if I can't reproduce them. I have limited time and, overall, believe that I am doing a reasonably good job of maintaining the ICU packages. If someone can do it better and wishes to take the packages over, I will be willing to hand them off, particularly if that person demonstrates their inclination with constructive action. This is, in fact, how I got most of my packages. In any case, looking past the tone of your message, I appreciate that you have updated this bug report, and I will respect your wishes, as the submitter, that the bug be left open. I will also happily pursue this further if you or anyone else can provide some additional input. In an ideal world, as debian maintainer, I would do some more digging myself, but there are only so many hours in the day. -- Jay Berkenbilt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
