I've just googled a bit and couldn't find any straightforward way to
convert utf8 to something postscriptish. While we should probably
recode the output anyway to latin1, that doesn't solve the problem for
all other characters. (Maybe //translit is a worthwhile workaround...)

I guess we should optionally output latex code with the proper
encoding. (That would also ease solving the "print photo ids" problem
in #316131).
