it looks like some progress is being made! but it is still not working flawlessly. if i do $ umount /cdrom $ mount /cdrom $ totem /cdrom the dvd _will_ play correctly! however, if i do $ umount /cdrom $ mount /cdrom $ totem then click "Movie -> Play Disc" i will get an error message "Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc." strange that it works differently depending on whether the action was specified via the command line vs. via the menus. note that this behavior is now consistent for both xfce and gnome. previous versions had different behaviors under the two desktop environments. any more information i can provide? can anyone confirm this problem? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
