This bug was triggered due to a change in libc6-dev 2.6.1-3 that was (most likely) fully corrected in 2.6.1-5 (see http://bugs.debian.org/442427). A test build of lurkftp (on a amd64 box) didn't have a problem. Can you confirm this for your environment?
