It's not supposed to.  As the package description and changelog explain,
vim-full is now simply a transitional package Depending on vim-gnome.  I
think the actual issue you are experiencing is that I made a typo in
vim-full's preinst script which didn't properly remove the alternative
for it[0].

You can fix this by running "update-alternatives --auto vim" and the
same for the other alternatives that used to be provided by vim-full
(vi, view, ex, editor, rvim, rview, vimdiff, eview, evim, gview,
gvimdiff, rgview, rgvim, gvim).
