Just took some time to read parts of "The Debian GNU/Linux FAQ", particularly chapter 6 at http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-pkg_basics.en.html This page refers to the "Debian Packaging manual", which as far as I can tell, no longer exist. Superceeded by the Debian Policy Manual ???
