I've hit this bug on just-released security update for etch, with some minutes of total panic. ;(
Ok, now i will reconf all my server using ldap://localhost/ insted of ldapi:///, but because is one-line patch (to debconf script, not to the software itself) why not simply apply also in etch? -- dott.
