Hi Manoj,

One of the specs that came out of the Ubuntu Developer Summit in November
was to improve update-grub's handling of menu.lst updates, so that it
would stop silently overwriting local changes. Of the available solutions,
it was deemed that ucf was most suitable:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GrubConflictDetection

However, since the content to be managed by ucf is only a subset of the
menu.lst file, the existing ucf debconf template isn't really suitable
because it talks about "files" but the file being managed will be a temp
file.

Our proposed solution is for ucf to support specifying an
(application-supplied) alternate debconf template as a command-line
argument, to use in place of ucf/changeprompt or ucf/changeprompt_threeway.
Since the template to use is already variable, such a patch should be fairly
non-intrusive. Would you be amenable to receiving such a patch to ucf? The
patch itself is trivial and I'm happy to prepare it, but thought I would
check with you first whether you have any particular requirements for such a
patch.

Cheers,
