Sure! I started aptitude and searched proftpd. There I pressed "+" to install it. Pressing "g" shows that vsftpd needs to be removed because of collision with "ftp-server". Again "g" to go ahaed. After that I quit aptitude. (This should be the same as "aptitude install proftpd") ps x | grep [v]sftpd 18412 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/vsftpd A little bit funny is that I cannot reproduce it, too. But I thought you should get this information. I thought this could be a thing of the init script or what else... I don't know. Sorry for setting this grave! Hauke
