Package: awesome
Version: 2.1~rc2-1
Severity: normal

This report is very fuzzy, my apologies. I'd be happy to provide
better input if you give me some ideas on how to debug this.

I have a dual-screen setup using the fglrx driver on an ATI RS690.
When starting awesome, the status bar flashes for the fraction of a
second at the top of the screen, then awesome exits.

I recompiled with debugging symbols, and set a breakpoint on exit in
gdb. It died in XGetTransientForHint() in client.c:395. For playing
around, I #ifdef 0'ed that section, then it got as far as this:

Breakpoint 1, 0x00002b1ad7793f70 in exit () from /lib/libc.so.6
(gdb) r
The program being debugged has been started already.
Start it from the beginning? (y or n) y

Starting program: /cb/cb/debian/awesome/awesome-2.1~rc2/awesome

The XGetTransientForHint() backtrace looks very similar
(_XReply/_XError/...). (Sorry, not available anymore, and I got screen
lock-ups when trying to reproduce it.)

xpdyinfo output is attached. I'd be happy to provide more information
or to assist in debugging this.

This was in a lenny environment (with some X server components from
unstable), the same crash occurs in a sid changeroot.
