I am trying to connect to a WPA encrypted network with NetworkManager, but it
won't work. I found the following lines in /var/log/daemon.log, which might
contain a hint of what is going on:

Jan 21 10:02:35 bird NetworkManager: <debug> [1200927755.578822] nm_device_802_11_wireless_get_activation_ap(): Forcing AP 'wireless_network' Jan 21 10:03:03 bird NetworkManager: <info> Error opening supplicant global control interface. Jan 21 10:03:03 bird NetworkManager: <WARN> real_act_stage2_config(): Activation (eth2/wireless): couldn't connect to the supplicant.

Is there already a wpa_supplicant instance running, which interferes with NM? What happens if you stop NM (/etc/init.d/network-manager). Is there still a wpa_supplicant process running? Does it help if you kill this process and start NM again?
