Hi Brian,
global syslog logging is enabled with the '-s' command line argument
passed by default to squid in /etc/init.d/squid. You can override the
SQUID_ARGS settings in /etc/default/squid.
I think this should address the issue you reported, but I'm still
leaving this bug opened since looking at the code the syslog part
hasn't changed in the last 2 years and it appears that a non-blocking
solution cannot be implemented in squid but needs an external non-
blocking daemon like syslog-ng.
I didn't test this solution and would like to hear from you if it
solves this issue. If it doesn't I can forward the bug to the upstream
bug reporting tool.
