The upstream maintainer has stated that this syntax is obsolescent behavior and won't be fixed. If you want to tail multiple files with N then it must be 'tail -nN file1 file2...'. Feel free to take the discussion upstream to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for further discussion but I don't think it is appropriate for Debian to deviate from upstream on this.
