Package: whois Version: 4.7.4 Severity: normal whois currently queries whois.ncst.ernet.in for .in domainnames, however that doesn't listen to the whois port anymore.
For me, whois.registry.in works, I suggest that should be used as the default server for .in. (Perhaps an external config file should be used for this data, instead of it being compiled in?) BTW, _why_ is mkpasswd part of the whois package? What possible relation do those have with each other? I couldn't find any explanation in e.g. the README.
