It run trough the whole base installation step without displaying any error message, and the system seems to be up and running now, no missing files (or missconfiguration) found so far except of this reported problems with broken "en" locale and TERM problems. > something is badly broken in the locales package; it seems locale-gen > cannot find the locale definition files for english. Ehm. AFAICS it is broken because "en" actually IS an invalid entry and it has been seet by d-i. Try to pass it to locale-gen and it will complain on a normal Sid system. > > debconf: (TERM is not set, so the dialog frontend is not usable.) > > And the only reasons I can think of why you'd not get a TERM when you > sshed in are 1) sshing w/o a teletype or 2) broken terminfo.. 1) What is a teletype in this context? Any documentation? 2) As said, rxvt-unicode (TERM=rxvt), ssh-3.9.x and screen. During the installation phase it has been working "as usual", with all dialog boxes drawn correctly, etc.pp. I fail to see the reason for the failure when starting base-config. Unfortnately it does not display any hint to guess what was going wrong (read: meaningfull problem description, environment variables or so). The only thing that did not work w/ the terminal were the truncated i18n'ed strings, cut after a non-ascii char.
