Yes, If you suspect that it is the same, it really sounds like that! I tested again, with some packages. It seems that (but I am not sure yet), that I can reproduce this "segentation fault" in following circumstances: * Have a package which is removed but not purged. * The package was present in Debian in an older release, say sarge, but the package is not anymore in etch: e.g. dbus-1 in sarge, but not in etch or lenny). * use the parameter "-V" also with aptiude (but even without this aptitude segfaults on some old packages with config-files around, but only on a smaller list of packages). Examples: dbus-1 (sarge but not in >=etch); slang1 (sarge but not in >= etch) Many thanks for developing and maintaining aptitude!
