Well, it is not very easy to find some pattern in the behaviour, but it
seams that if the system has been on for some hours, it sometimes stops.
Here comes some more details:
- Usually, when one tries to log on, there is no reply. In those cases,
the system can be reached by VNC, but is then very slow. Sometimed it
helps to restart gdm (/etc/init.d/gdm restart), but usually not.
However, it may take over an hour to do this. It may be possible to shut
down the system with the init 0 command, but usally that does not work
either.
- The system may respond to Ctrl+AltF1, but you can not log on. There is
a slightly larger possibility to log on to Ctrl+Alt+F2, but it is the
same as with VNC, you can not do anything.

completely black? Are the other VTs accessible through Ctrl+Alt+Fx ?
Does it ever happen while using the computer? If not, does deactivating
