Package: libswfdec-0.6-90
Version: 0.6.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello!

Had a litte discussion with Company about recommended configure options.

22:57 < Company> sheesh
22:57 < Company> http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/libswfdec-0.6-90
22:57 < Company> we don't depend on ffmpeg anymore
....
10:15 < fatal_> Company: do you recommend against building with ffmpeg enabled?
10:15 < fatal_> DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS := --enable-static --enable-mad
                --enable-gstreamer --enable-ffmpeg
10:16 < fatal_> that's what's in the debian (and thus ubuntu) package....
10:17 < fatal_> should all those extra configure flags be removed?
10:18 < Company> yes
10:19 < Company> running ./configure without any flags is the recommended way
                 to build swfdec
10:19 < Company> of course, there might be distro policies that require
                 --enable-static or so

Ofcourse dropping ffmpeg and mad would mean you should probably also make sure
people get decoder plugins installed for gstreamer... A Recommends on
the packages for these should do it:

10:19 < Company> gst-plugins-ugly
a.k.a. gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

10:20 < Company> and gst-ffmpeg
a.k.a. gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

(Debian also has flump3dec - aka gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3, a nicer gstreamer
mp3 decoder with patent licensing, which might be useful to have as an
alternative... but you also need video decoders so I don't know if it can
replace any of the ones company mentioned.
This one is MPL though, which is GPL incompatible, so watch out for
possible licensing problems when mixing it with gst-ffmpeg and -ugly.)

While at it I would also like to mention that most library packages
seems to use the convention "libfooX.Y-Z" instead of "libfoo-X.Y-Z" as
swfdec uses (maybe something to be considered when swfdec >= 0.7 is
released so you don't have to possibly getting stuck in NEW for renaming.)

Have a nice day!
