I'm sure I did.

My purge & reinstall of all non-essential packages was part of getting
KDE working again after some problems with compiz. I moved my home
directory /home/david/ to /home/david_old/ and made a new /home/david/
owned by david:david. This is confirmed by the fact that I had to do
all the KDE configuration again, and Iceweasel didn't have any of my
plugins, history, favourites etc after I re-installed it (but it did
have that red carot and big open space at the bottom).

I will investigate further later.
