I am using radeon driver for my xserver, which seems to have switched to XRandR 1.2 for dual-monitor supports, and one of the things that XRandR does that Xinerama or others couldn't do at all is switch monitors on and off without restarting the X server. But it appears that xscreensaver dies if the screen configuration is changed. [1] + abort xscreensaver -nosplash At the moment, I added xscreensaver restarting to the script I use to switch between monitor configurations, but this could potentially be a problem for users who expect xscreensaver to keep running after monitor configuration change (and if it was started by, e.g. Xsession script the user won't see the error message) and lock the screen on idle.
